Crawfish Color Run – April 7th, 2018
LSU SPE students participated in the 2018 Crawfish Color Run which benefits Relay for Life and raises awareness about cancer research. Attendance for this event was 9 students.
General Meeting with Cotton Gin International – April 5th, 2018
Cotton Gin International visited LSU and gave a presentation on their business and mission to expand safe water access globally. Attendance for this event was 45 students.

General Meeting with Premier Drilling – March 22nd, 2018
Premier Drilling visited LSU and gave a presentation about entrepreneurship and opportunities in the oil and gas industry. Attendance for this event was 32 students.
General Meeting with Flogistix – March 15th, 2018
Flogistix visited LSU and gave a presentation about the vapor recovery, compression, and water transfer services that they offer. Attendance for this event was 34 students.
SPE North America Student Symposium – February 21st-24th, 2018
The SPE North America Student Symposium is a massive conference put together by SPE International Students across North America. This year SPE NASS was hosted at Louisiana State University and was held in conjunction with the North America Petrobowl Regional Qualifier and Regional Student Paper Contests. The Symposium was a great opportunity for students to network with industry professionals, learn more about the petroleum environment, and meet students from other universities.
Baker Hughes Field Trip – February 22nd, 2018
LSU SPE organizes a field trip to Baker Hughes during the 2018 SPE Student Symposium. Attendance for this event was 10 students.
Shell Robert Training Center Field Trip – February 22nd, 2018
LSU SPE organizes a field trip to Shell Training Center in Robert, LA during the 2018 SPE Student Symposium. Attendance for this event was 27 students.
Workstrings International Field Trip – February 22nd, 2018
LSU SPE organizes a field trip to Workstrings International during the 2018 SPE Student Symposium. Attendance for this event was 31 students.
Core Lab Field Trip – February 22nd, 2018
LSU SPE organizes a field trip to Core Lab during the 2018 SPE Student Symposium. Attendance for this event was 11 students.
LSU PetroBowl Team – February 21st, 2018
The LSU PetroBowl Team competed against 19 other schools during the SPE North American Student Symposium and finished in 4th place to qualify for the Finals at ATCE 2018 in Dallas, TX. Congratulations and thank you to Hope Asala, Jack Blears, Kenny Lau, Nicolas Terselich, Fatima Yisa, and Syed Yousof for dedicating their time and representing the University and Petroleum Engineering program well.
LSU SPE Intramural Sports Teams – January 17th – March 1st, 2018
LSU SPE members organized and participated in several intramural sports teams including our soccer team which made it to the playoffs.
LSU Student Involvement Fair – February 8th, 2018
LSU SPE students volunteer their time to spread awareness about SPE and increase involvement. Attendance for this event was 3 students.
LSU SPE Paper Contest – February 3rd, 2018
LSU SPE hosted the SPE Regional Paper Contest. Attendance for this event was 25 students.
Boys and Girls Club Volunteer Event – February 2nd, 2018
LSU SPE members volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge and taught the kids about petroleum engineering. Attendance for this Volunteering event was 12 students.
General Night Meeting with Chevron – January 25th, 2018
LSU alumni Birlie Bourgeois gave us a presentation to start off the Spring 2018 semester and sponsored a BBQ dinner afterwards. Attendance for this General Night Meeting was 112 students.
Lunch and Learn with TAM International – November 17th, 2017
TAM International gave us a presentation on their completions products and services and bought us lunch from Izzo’s. Attendance for this Lunch and Learn event was 43 students.
Recycling around Campus – November 12th, 2017
LSU SPE members volunteered on Sunday to help clean up campus after gameday. Attendance for this Volunteering event was 14 students.
Football Tailgates sponsored by Workstrings International – November 11th, 2017
Tailgates sponsored by Workstrings International for the home football games against Auburn (October 14th) and Arkansas (November 11th). Attendance for these Networking and Social events was 115 students.
2017 SPE Golf Tournament – November 10th, 2017
Students teamed up with industry representatives for a four-man scramble on November 10th. Attendance for this event was 70 students and industry representatives.
General Night Meeting with Anadarko – November 9th, 2017
Special thanks to Anadarko and all of our amazing students for the wonderful turnout at this week’s meeting. This was our last meeting of the semester and Anadarko made it a great one! Attendance for this General Meeting event was 83 students.
2017 API Delta Chapter Joint Society Luncheon – November 8th, 2017
API Delta chapter hosted a luncheon on the topic of “A Case for the Growth of Louisiana’s Oil and Gas Industry” with the keynote speakers being Greg Upton and Sharon Hewitt. This event was hosted at the Marriot Convention Center in New Orleans, LA. Attendance for this Networking event was 5 students.
Wild Well Control Blowout Training – October 28th-29th, 2017
Some of our students are now officially industry certified to prevent blowouts. We would like to thank Wild Well Control for offering this amazing course to our members. Everyone passed the certification test! Attendance for this Training and Networking event was 21 students.
General Night Meeting with Southwestern Energy – October 26th, 2017
We would like to thank Southwestern Energy for being our honored guests for last week’s general night meeting. Our students got a chance to learn more about Southwestern and their operations, and enjoy the Raising Canes social afterwards. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 55 students.
SPE ATCE 2017 – October 9th-11th, 2017
LSU SPE members attended ATCE in San Antonio to learn more about the latest technology in the oil and gas industry as well as network with industry professionals and other students.
Core Element STEM Fest – September 30th, 2017
LSU SPE members represented our chapter at the Core Element STEM Fest at the New Orleans Saints practice facility. Members played “Oil Finder” game with lots of kids and taught them about the different geological structures with the New Orleans Geological Society (NOGS). Attendance for this Community event was 4 students.
General Meeting with Trinidad Drilling – September 28th, 2017
Trinidad Drilling visited our campus for the very first time for a General Night Meeting. Our students received a great opportunity to learn more about Trinidad Drilling’s services and operations. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 51 students.
Chevron Mentorship Program – September 25th, 2017
LSU SPE’s Chevron Mentorship Program hosted their first General Meeting to tie up Mentors and Mentees, with catering provided by Raising Canes at the end of the meeting. Attendance for this Networking and Social event was 55 students.
General Meeting with Nabors Drilling – September 21st, 2017
Nabors Drilling visited our campus for the very first time for a General Night Meeting with high-level representatives. LSU SPE officers and the PERTT Lab gave a tour to the representatives before proceeding to the meeting. Our students were extremely excited to learn more about innovation and the future of the drilling industry through Nabors. After the meeting, Nabors hosted a social at Walk-On’s for some delicious food and networking opportunities. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 70 students.
Energy Day Volunteer Event – September 16th, 2017
LSU SPE volunteered at Energy Day by teaming up with SPE Delta Section, Shell, AAPG, NOGS, BOEM, Energy4ME, and PIPE with booths that taught hundreds of kids and families about Oil and Gas at Louisiana Children’s Museum. The whole museum was filled with oil and gas activities. Attendance for this Community and Networking event was 8 students.
Lunch and Learn with Baker Hughes-GE – September 15th, 2017
LSU SPE held its first lunch and learn ever in chapter history. We were proud to have Baker Hughes-GE as our “learn” and Raising Canes as our “lunch” components for our first lunch and learn. Turnout was excellent at 75 students which meant that the entire room was completely full. Attendance for this Lunch and Learn and Social event was 75 students.
Bowling Social at All Star Lanes – September 13th, 2017
LSU SPE hosted a bowling social at All Star Lanes. Attendance for this Social event was 25 students.
General Night Meeting with ConocoPhillips – September 7th, 2017
ConocoPhillips Representatives visited our chapter and hosted a General Night Meeting, to talk to us about their business strategies and give us advice on how to become successful petroleum engineers. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 70 students.
Industry Panel Discussion – September 5th, 2017
LSU SPE hosted an annual Industry Panel Discussion that included Mock interviews, and activities from the following companies: Anadarko, Baker Hughes-GE, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Newfield, Shell, Halliburton. Attendance for this Networking event was 48 students.
Welcome Day Event – August 31st, 2017
LSU SPE hosted a Welcome Day Event for all Petroleum Engineering students in Association with AADE, SPWLA, and Petroleum Honor Society. Attendance for this Networking event was 114 students.
College of Engineering’s Tiger Connections – August 24th, 2017
LSU SPE participated in College of Engineering’s Tiger Connections Event where all other Engineering Organizations were present to recruit new students. Attendance for this Networking event was 60 students.
Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Technical Symposium – August 21st-23rd, 2017
LSU SPE members attended the 21st Annual Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Technical Symposium in New Orleans to learn more about how Offshore operations work. Many of the members also attended the Fin Feather Fur Food Festival which showcased some delicious food and an opportunity to network with industry professionals. Attendance for this Networking event was 74 students.
LSU Transfer Career Day – August 18th, 2017
LSU SPE attended LSU’s Transfer Career Day fair to reach out to all incoming Transfer Students. Attendance for this Networking event was 22 students.
LSU Student Organizations Showcase – August 15th, 2017
LSU SPE attended LSU’s Student Organization’s showcase to reach out to incoming freshmen about the tremendous activities that LSU SPE hosts and participates in. Attendance for this Networking event was 48 students.
SPE Delta Section Path Forward Meeting – August 9th, 2017
LSU SPE Officers attended the SPE Delta Section Path Forward Meeting, and presented to the Delta Section board on LSU SPE’s plans for the year. Attendance for this Networking event was 2 students.
Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank – July 15th, 2017
LSU SPE members volunteered at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank early Saturday morning. Attendance for this Community event was 6 students.
Bowling Social – July 12th, 2017
LSU SPE organized a fun bowling social for all of its members that were in town during the long summer break, at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge. Attendance for this Social event was 34 students.
Emerging Engineering Conference – June 15th, 2017
LSU SPE members attended the Emerging Engineering Conference at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus. Attendance for this Networking event was 16 students.
STEM Day – May 22nd, 2017
LSU SPE teamed up with Delta Section, NOGS, and SGS with a booth that taught hundreds of students about Geology, Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering during STEM Day in New Orleans at a local baseball field. Attendance for this Community event was 7 students.
SPE Delta Section Scholarship Banquet – May 16th, 2017
Our LSU SPE members made up for 9 out of 15 recipients of the SPE Delta Section Scholarship. We are extremely proud of them and our great relationship with Delta Section. SPE hosted a great scholarship banquet dinner for our scholarship winners at the Sheraton hotel in New Orleans. Attendance for this Networking event was 11 students.
2017 Petroleum Engineering Department Crawfish Boil – April 21st, 2017
LSU SPE sponsored the 2017 Annual Crawfish Boil for the Petroleum Engineering Department. The Crawfish Boil is a huge event for all petroleum engineering majors and faculty to attend and enjoy some classic Louisiana Crawfish, but none bigger than for the graduating seniors who would present their final senior project earlier in the day. The event was also attended by industry professionals and members of the Industry Advisory Committee to network and congratulate graduating seniors. We are proud to announce that our faculty advisor, Dr. Medhi Zeidouni was also awarded the Craft and Hawkins Teaching Award at the event. Attendance for this Networking event was 406 students and faculty.
Industry Advisory Committee Luncheon – April 21st, 2017
LSU SPE leaders were invited by the Department of Petroleum Engineering to have a luncheon with members of the Industry Advisory Committee to make the department even better. After the luncheon, LSU SPE presented to the members of the Industry Advisory Committee on their upcoming plans for the 2017-2018 Academic School year. Attendance for this Industry Engagement event was 21 students (Officers and Directors only).
General Meeting with Newfield CEO Lee Boothby – April 20th, 2017
President/CEO of Newfield Exploration, Lee Boothby visited LSU to present about his role at Newfield, and to give some great tips and advice to students on how to mitigate the current downturn in the industry to find success. Mr. Boothby was so helpful to the students, that the planned one-hour meeting lasted for more than three hours. A pizza social followed afterwards. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 75 students.
General Meeting with SPE Eastern Regional Director Joe Frantz – April 6th, 2017
SPE Eastern Regional Director Joseph Franzt’s visited LSU to present about his role within SPE as a Regional Director, and also as the Vice President of Range Resources. After the meeting, SPE sponsored dinner at Caliente Restaurant as a Social event. Attendance for this General Meeting and Social event was 102 students.
